Eric Stenman, CEO of Balfour Beatty, was named CEO of the Year by the San Diego Business Journal.

Eric Stenman, President and CEO of Balfour Beatty US, has been honored as the 2024 CEO of the Year in the large public company category by the San Diego Business Journal. The award, part of the publication’s CEO of the Year Awards program, recognizes outstanding contributions to company growth, community development, and leadership. The ceremony took place on June 27 in downtown San Diego.
Stenman was selected from a pool of 91 finalists as one of six winners in the category. With over 40 years of experience in the construction industry, Stenman leads Balfour Beatty’s U.S. operations across its Buildings and Civils sectors, overseeing more than $5 billion in revenue and a workforce of approximately 5,000 employees.
Throughout his career, Stenman has held various pivotal roles, including Division President, Chief Enterprise Development Officer, Regional CEO, and Chief Operations Officer. His contributions extend beyond Balfour Beatty, having served at both the state and national levels of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). His roles included Chair of the National Contract Documents Forum, Chair of the Building Division for AGC of America, and President of AGC San Diego.
Stenman attributes the company’s success to its employees, spearheading leadership development programs and investing in their growth. He champions diversity and inclusion within Balfour Beatty, ensuring that the company’s core value of “Value Everyone” is embodied across its operations. Under his leadership, Balfour Beatty has made significant strides in integrating new technologies, including AI, to enhance client services and operational efficiency.
