Pam recalls a particularly challenging situation with a mid-market company whose CEO and board had set aggressive growth targets despite a major downturn in their primary market. The CEO needed four division presidents, who were accustomed to working autonomously, to agree on a new vision and strategy and transform into a high-performing C-Suite team. The presidents fiercely resisted working together, threatening the company’s leadership position in their industry. Collaborating with the CEO, Pam focused on uncovering the hidden issues underlying the paradoxical leadership dynamics. As trust among the leaders increased, they moved beyond their differences and committed to working together as a high-performing team. This enabled them to make major strategic and executional decisions, resulting in the company’s annual revenue increasing nearly sevenfold over four years, from $100 million to almost $700 million, dramatically exceeding expectations.
